Over 50 PhD’s in Land Degradation and Development have contributed to unmasking a number of myths. Feeding more detailed process knowledge into models with limited measuring opportunities will not help to mitigate land degradation. Land degradation is a local problem needing local solutions for which no miracles exist. Small scale interventions have effect. Cultural economics determine farmers’ entrepreneurship more than socio-cultural constraints. Capacity building will help developing countries to ‘develop from within’ and lifelong ties with Wageningen stimulates brain circulation. |
